The Respectful Approach is ultimately about building a trusting, lasting bond with positive communication between teachers and children. There is less focus on checklists and achieving milestones, with acknowledgement that each child is different. Communication is key. Teachers will always communicate what they are doing, how they are doing it, and when to a child. For example: " Billy, I am going to pick you up to change your diaper." - Teacher.
Showing respect involves being aware of your child's very real feelings, and doing so will solidify the trust you have built with your child. Trust is an essential part of any relationship between people of all ages, and will continue to grow with time, given that you are honest and reliable
Look children in the eyes, and talk with them, rather than “at' them. Talk to children about inappropriate behavior in private, rather than in front of others. Remind them of the reasons for rules, and discuss what they can do differently.
Take time every day to connect with each child individually. Greeting a child warmly and talking in a pleasant, calm voice helps you develop a secure teacher, child relationships. It is also important to get to know each child and appreciate where he or she is at in their development, understanding, and interests.
